Binocular Data Visualization
OKOSHI Madoka
aaploit presents Binocular Data Visualization, a solo exhibition by Okoshi Madoka, on view from September 27 through October 13, 2024. Okoshi focuses on the iPhone, producing work that captures the transformation of society through smartphones. In recent years she has presented her "Surface Drawing" series, utilizing the LiDAR sensor.
Okoshi's process involves capturing urban landscapes and figures through a dedicated iPhone application using the LiDAR sensor, generating 3D models from the resulting point cloud data, summoning them into physical space through augmented reality (AR), and photographing these data images. The method presents the world as technology "sees" it, questioning the relationship between human perception and what lies beyond it.
The new "Binocular Data Visualization" series presented in this exhibition develops the "Surface Drawing" concept further. By simultaneously visualizing the front and back of the same subject, the work explores the multifaceted nature of data and the relativity of perception.
