The painting is covered edge to edge in a rusted brown. But stare past the surface color and the image of a figure looking back at you rises into view. Look harder still and you notice another figure depicted there, one watching Reunion. The one who was looking turns into the one being looked at. The gaze returned toward you from within the painting and the gaze cast at the picture deep in the field cross over each other, until which is the seer and which the seen no longer holds. You lose track of where, in this nesting, you yourself stand.
