Still / Yet

aaploit is pleased to present Still / Yet, a two-person exhibition by ITO Nanami and KIKUCHI Torasuke, on view from February 15 through March 8, 2026.

Still / Yet focuses on moments in which things that are otherwise in flux appear, briefly, to stand still. Even works that seem complete retain a sense of indeterminacy. Through differing artistic approaches, the exhibition examines states that appear paused, yet continue to unfold.

ITO’s paintings are constructed from a bird’s-eye perspective, in which layers of flowing color and accumulated traces coexist within the pictorial field. The forms that emerge do not settle into identifiable landscapes or objects; instead, they prompt viewers to repeatedly search for images and let them go. Her paintings preserve a state prior to the fixation of meaning or form, holding within the canvas a sense of time that continues rather than concludes.

KIKUCHI Torasuke works primarily with camphor wood, creating sculptures that stretch sudden change and uncontrollable events into his own temporal framework. For this exhibition, KIKUCHI presents a new relief work titled Gray, in which fragments of past media experiences and memories surface across the plane like noise, only to gradually fade away. Moving alongside an accelerating world, the sculpture advances at its own pace.

Although the two artists differ in material and production speed, their works share an engagement with moments when change briefly lingers. Seen together, their practices reveal contrasting perceptions of time.

What is presented in this exhibition is not flux itself, but moments in which flux temporarily settles into matter or image. Still—yet continuing. Through their respective approaches, the artists suggest the possibility of speeds other than acceleration.

At aaploit, exhibitions are conceived not as something to be immediately understood, but as experiences whose meanings gradually shift within each viewer’s own time.
