AKINO Intro
aaploit presents attachment, a solo exhibition by Akino Intro, on view from October 6 through October 29, 2023. Akino works as a psychological counselor while maintaining a creative practice across digital and physical media. His digital works are also presented as NFTs.
Akino began his creative activity from art therapy used in psychological counseling. From this background, his work focuses on the multiplicity and conflicts inherent in people. In the course of social life, as we accumulate judgments and decisions, we may struggle with ways of speaking we did not intend or unexpected reactions from others. One might prefer solitude, yet falling into isolation can be more serious than the breakdown of relationships. What Akino expresses may appear as self-loathing or self-defense in the face of one's own multiplicity.
introvert / Comprehensive Pathetic is a portrait of a figure who could be read as either male or female. Buttons are sewn over the eyes—mismatched in size, giving the impression of an unfocused gaze. Paint drips around the buttons, evoking tears. The figure's mouth is sealed shut. The button eyes expressing emotional hesitation, and the sealed mouth—yet one must still engage with others. Akino calls this conflict, but he finds humanity in it and attempts to express "the moment of conflict." He says: "I want to contribute to viewers accepting their own conflicts not as something to be despised, but as something that belongs—and to considering a way of living that is not self-destructive but more productive and meaningful."
During the exhibition, a new work from the External Interference Device series will be presented. An actual telephone line will be connected to the work. There is no dial, so calls cannot be placed from the gallery, but if you call 03-5684-0345, someone may answer. If you are visiting the exhibition and the phone rings, please pick up the receiver.
This telephone number is active only during the exhibition period of Akino Intro's solo show. Please take care not to misdial.
